I just returned from an adventure-packed wildlife exploration in one of my favorite tiger reserves - Tadoba National Park ! Bazooka camera in hand, raring to click wildlife especially, #BigCats aka #Tigers, it was an enthralling experience, as always !

But this time, a different angle emerged as I often waited in 45+ degree temperatures in search of the elusive stripes ! So here are some #LifeLessons from Tigers, from having an opportunity to sight these majestic apex predators in the wild !

1.     Trust your instinct:

In the wild, survival often depends on gut feelings. Trusting your intuition can guide you through tough decisions in life too.Though it is an Apex Predator, even tigers face lot of survival threats - cubs can be killed by leopards, wild dogs, or even by another rival male tiger who is not their father. Mother tigers need to rely on their mama-intelligence aka their enhanced instincts to ensure safety of cubs.

Lesson: Trust your inner voice, listen to your gut feel.

2.     Go with the flow:

Nature doesn’t resist change - it adapts. The rule of tigerland is constant change. Last year only we visited a particular lale which was ruled by tigress Sonam, but within a year, she was ousted from her own home by another stronger, more powerful tigress. Change in the only constant, and sometimes it is important to embrace change.

Lesson: Embrace life's currents instead of fighting them.

3.     Be in the present:

Wild creatures live moment to moment. Have you ever heard of a tiger stocking up his fridge with meals for the future? Or a Tiger Mom worried about how her kids will become independent ? Infact tigers oust out their kin around 2 years of age. They are more concerned with the here and now !

Lesson: Focusing on the now reduces stress and heightens awareness.

4.     Adapt to your surroundings:

Whether it's weather, terrain, or a new environment, animals adjust quickly. Especially tigers who originated from Siberia, have learnt to thrive in tropical 45+ temperatures - they simply chill off in water pools during the day to stay cool, and do any active activity during the day. This helps them preserve their energy in useful activities like patrolling, hunting, etc.

Lesson: Flexibility is key to thriving.

5.     Know when to fight and when to flee:

Even as the strongest predators, tigers do not launch an attack unless within 100 metres of their target prey. They take calculated decisions when it comes to spending their energy. If they feel a lesser chance of a successful hunt, they may give up midway or even immediately.

Lesson: Not every battle is worth it. Wisdom lies in knowing when to stand your ground and when to walk away.

6.     Live in harmony:

As I saw 10 different tigers, wild dogs, sambar deer and many other animals thrive together, I realised that very creature has a role to play. At one point, there was a scene where prey (sambar deer) and predator (wild dogs) were peacefully drinking at the same lake. Scarcity of resources perhaps brought then

Lesson: Recognize how interconnected everything is—and honor that balance.

7.     Stay active:

Tigers are territorial animals, designed to cover large territories, which they need to actively guard and patrol to maintain their stronghold. Animals are constantly on the move—hunting, playing, exploring.

Lesson: Movement keeps the body and mind sharp.

8.     Move with purpose:

Much of movement, whether predator or prey, is with intention. Whether stalking prey or migrating, animals act with intention. Tigers spend a lot of time moving - patrolling their territory to ensure it is protected, moving cubs from one safe place to another to protect them, stalking and hunting every couple of days (after all, one has to eat well ! )

Lesson: Be intentful in thoughts, words and actions, clarity in direction makes every step meaningful.

In a Nutshell ...

Wherever we go, whatever we see, there is always something to learn ! Over the years, I have seen that #wildlife has so much to teach us ! As humans, we may think that animals have nothing much to teach, but perhaps the most profound lifelessons have been from my wildlife sojourns !
